Who is COS Inc.?

COS, Inc. is located in Ben Lomond, Santa Cruz county, Ca. It is a high technology manufacturing and engineering services company which deals primarily with the production of hardware and software systems relating to industrial control and communication systems.

COS’s products are specifically built for use in applications requiring rugged, stand alone, field deployed systems. Our products have been selected for use in both commercial and military applications, and have established a reputation for reliability and service.

Supplementing our product offerings, the company's basic business mission includes the offering of contract engineering services, to staff and supplement client engineering teams. Our areas of expertise include Agriculture, Aquaculture, Irrigation Systems, Environmental Monitoring, Light Industrial and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems, and power distribution and control systems. Our products are specifically designed for use in standalone, distributed processing applications, requiring the highest degree of reliability. We have been instrumental in pioneering the development of control systems for applications in the fields of fisheries and aquaculture management, agriculture and other areas.

PRODUCTS DIVISION

COS products have earned a reputation for quality and reliability. All products are fully warranted for 3 years (some to 5 years).

Our product Lineup:

COS is proud to present these proven workhorses of the industry:

The MCU300: A site Monitor and Control system. This is a rack mount unit incorporating AC power control for external devices, analog data acquisition for interface to temperature, humidity and other analog functions, and digital status and control to control valves, motors, etc..

The MCU300 offers a variety of communications options, including modems, direct serial links, pagers, printers and more. It supports up to 16 internal electronic AC relays (standard hockey pucks) for controlling loads up to 125 amps each, 240 volts. The MCU300 includes built-in power filtering. Input power requirements: 90 to 260 VAC, 50 or 60 Hz.

The MCU500: Similar in function to the MCU300, this unit is a panel mount, low cost version of it’s big brother, without the built-in AC relay control and power filtering. An external expansion and signal breakout box is normally used with the MCU500. The expansion box can be fitted with the a variety of DIN rail mounted accessories:

  • Analog and Digital I/O signal expansion units, which allows the MCU to monitor up to 64 analog and 64 digital inputs.
  • Digital output modules, which expands the digital outputs up to 64 outputs. Both TTL and high drive capability models for operating small relays, etc.
  • Relay output modules, supporting up to 64 relay outputs, with optically isolated status feedback lines for monitoring power condition (90 to 240 VAC input).

And to make it all come together:

COS also manufactures a line of discrete products designed to enhance the performance of the MCU300 and MCU500. These include the following instrumentation products:

  • Ruggedized, highly accurate temperature sensors, air and immersion types.
  • Humidity sensors, barometric sensors.
  • Light intensity sensors, with integration for total flux.
  • Optically isolated Line Amplifiers and signal conditioners (excellent for pH, ORP and ion specific probes, especially where ground noise is a problem).
  • Low-cost pressure sensors (great for air, CO2, Oxygen, etc.).
  • AC power control boxes, twin receptacle, w/ 40 Amp, 240 VAC electronic relay and status indicator built in (interfaces to MCU digital output control lines).

As part of our System design approach, we also offer a comprehensive line of third party vendor supplied products, including valves, pressure gauges, level switches, flow meters, sensors (pH, ORP, DO and ion specific), and others.

Software Support:

Our System Software Group offers the following services:

  • Customer assistance (and training) for developing the MCU300 and MCU500 databases.
  • Software add-in packages for instrument control (VB and C++ based).
  • Operating system plug-ins for SCADA systems.

Customer Support

We believe that one of the most important criteria for implementing a good control system is properly training the users. To this end, we provide training at our facility, which includes assistance in laying out your plant and designing the MCU database (this is the key that makes everything work!). Training may also be conducted on the customer premises, by special arrangement.

We provide follow on support, both real-time and off line, during the integration phase.

And we provide dial-up diagnostics and data base design and debug services for continuing customer support.

When you need to interface to a new sensor, or control point, we’ll assist you with the interface design, configuring the MCU, and providing recommendations for calibration of the instruments and sensors.

In a nutshell, we’re willing to go the extra mile to make sure you get a system that does what you want it to, and reliably. We specialize in startups, and pride ourselves on developing low- cost solutions that perform, and provide growth for the future.
